Negative Stigma Around Network Marketing is Richly Deserved…But Don’t Let That Stop You
In my work as an independent consultant with Rodan and Fields Dermatologists I meet plenty of people who, as my colleague Jessica Johnson says think that 'network marketing is about as cool as walking into a cocktail party with dog poo on your shoe'. And they’re right.
The thing with network marketing is that it’s strength is also it’s weakness. Scott Hall’s article entitled “The Real Problem With Network Marketing and MLM” makes the argument very well. Here are a few highlights:
- Network marketing is a business model that amounts to “micro-franchising”. Compared to other franchises it has a very low cost of entry and the potential for exceptional revenue.
- The real problem with MLM is not MLM itself, but some of the people it attracts.
Specifically, the low cost of entry and egalitarian nature of network marketing makes these businesses attractive to many people who:
- Have not done well in their business or profession and have little money to invest
- Have no experience owning or running a business
- Have no experience in sales
- Have little or no experience developing business relationships
- Are not satisfied with their income
- Have unrealistic expectations of the amount of work involved compared to the revenue realized
As a result, many network marketers end up:
- Over-selling the opportunity
- Inappropriately discussing business in social situations
- Coming across as desperate
- Over-focused on new recruits while neglecting existing customers
- Being either inaccurate or deceptive when talking to prospects
The bottom line is this: people across the country are making great money as independent consultants with Rodan + Fields. But the top earners work hard and run their businesses like a business.
If you’re a hard working, personable self-starter I want to talk to you about joining my team. Contact me today:LISTEN AND LEARN About Rodan+Fields in your own home, take notes and then call me to have them answered directly, then if we feel that we would make good business partners...we make it official!
